I have no experience with the animation products the author of the article is discussing. So I can't comment on them. However, I do
have two criticisms of his analysis:

1) He appears to be using SGI memory prices in his machine cost analysis. BIG mistake. Don't ever buy memory directly from SGI. Instead buy the computer with a minimum memory configuration and buy the remaining memory from a third party supplier. Kingston will probably offer you the memory for half of what SGI charges.

2) The article ignores how flexible the UMA architecture of the O2 computers are. Unlike Intel's version of UMA, SGI's performance sacrifice is minimal. The graphics performance of the NT box is constrained by the amount of memory on the GLINT board, not so with the SGI box.

The article does, however, illustrate that Intel computers are starting to compete with SGI offerings in 3D animation.
