Real Networks fails a couple gorilla tests:
1. Cost of switching is very low, both for clients and servers.
2. Proprietary advantage is non-existent. There are no patents, and basically any competant developer (including myself) could write a halfway decent video streaming solution in a couple weeks.
3. I don't believe their market share is all that significant
4. There isn't much space for building solutions that support and incorporate the RNWK product-- its an application akin to movie-player rather than a platform like Windows.

Of course, none of this is to say that RNWK isn't a good company or a good investment.
