Drug use can and does lead to health problems, public safety probems and family breakups. Everything from insurance, both health and property, to welfare, to the rearing of our youth is affected by drug use and thus all of society is affected.

Unfortunately an individuals right to choose what they want to do with thier lives and bodies cannot be decoupled from how the society is structured and that individuals responsibilty as a member of the society. If messing up one's body and mind with drugs leads to the suffering of society, then it has to be illegal... one could say for the "common good".
