contract announcement:
Singapore Telecom Awards Newbridge Networks Contract Valued at Over $35 Million to Construct a High-Performance, Multi-services network
Network Expansion to Meet Surging Demand for Advanced Data Communications Solutions
KANATA, Ontario, June 30, 1998 * Newbridge Networks has been awarded a contract valued at over $35 million by Singapore Telecom (SingTel) to supply advanced asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and time division multiplexing (TDM) systems for the construction of a high-performance, flexible, broadband multi-services network. Over the next three years, Newbridge will be supplying SingTel with internetworking technology that will enable the telecommunications carrier to meet the surging demand for data networking capacity in Singapore and other countries in the Asia Pacific region, and offer a wide assortment of innovative data services to its customers.
The contract awarded to Newbridge also includes O*Connor*s Singapore Pte Ltd., a leading Singapore-based system integrator and long-time distributor of Newbridge products. O*Connor*s will be providing its system integration and project management expertise.
The high-capacity, multi-services ATM network, which is scheduled to begin operating by the fourth quarter of 1998, will be based on the Siemens / Newbridge MainStreetXpress* 36170 Multiservices Switch, a high-capacity multi-service, multi-access platform, designed to support applications such as native cell relay, frame relay, circuit emulation, high-speed local area network (LAN) internetworking and Internet Protocol (IP).
The network will be managed end-to-end by the industry-leading MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager. The MainStreetXpress 46020 system enables operators to fully manage and configure the network end-to-end using point-and-click path and parameter configuration. Operators can remotely configure nodes, monitor real-time operations, set up and manage path routes, and isolate and manage conditions that may alter the network*s efficiency.
The Newbridger solution, which also includes the Company*s TDM equipment, will enable SingTel to provide a wide range of advanced data services, including low and high-speed leased-line circuits over ATM, digital cross connect functionality, frame relay and cell relay services, broadcast quality MPEG video, and managed IP services.
"SingTel*s commitment to upgrade its core network to a more powerful, robust broadband ATM infrastructure will enable the company to meet the ever-increasing customer demand for fully integrated solutions, including IP-based data applications such as Internet, intranet and extranet traffic, both now and in the future," said Ricky Ma, Managing Director, South-East Asia, Newbridge Networks.
The highly scalable and flexible MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservices Switch, the best-selling ATM switch in the industry, provides carriers with the functionality they require, such as a fully redundant switching fabric, hot-swappable interface cards, permanent and switched virtual circuits, a wide variety of interfaces, and advanced traffic management capabilities.
The MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager software is simple to operate, using intuitive graphical user interfaces (GUI), providing configuration management, software downloading, service provisioning, fault diagnostics, traffic simulations, statistics, reports and inventory management.
