g'day all - dear E, bid size is the # of shrs @ a bid price for the buyer and ask for the seller. So, there is some significance because it shows the supply and demand, i.e., in this case, supply to demand is 5:1 at that instance. However, unless the spread is really wide and persistent, the significance is quite superficial and it certainly does not reflect the underlying supply and demand. The latter is such that a house may a lot of inventory to sell but maintain an orderly unwinding by having a fixed ask bid and price. Or, sometimes the house wants to create a different impression [paint the tape.]
