lol. i cant compare detroit to the netherlands. just cant do it, i concede. if i was interested in avoiding your issues i certainly wouldnt be here posting as im clearly not a libertarian. i do not support the legalization of drugs, you and some others have made some great points, but in the full context i just do not endorse or condone the legalization. how does someone like yourself get from having such a passion for individual rights to setting up a socialist, yes socialist, country like netherlands as a blueprint to certain issues? i have stated i am unable to make the reasonable connection, clearly you can so do it and ill try to respond from there. as far as my band in the middle of the night analogy, clearly you agree with my assertion not everything is based on individual rights? that was about as straight forward as it gets yet i did not get an answer. i still do not want to model anything i can think of from a govt run society. everything is peachy at first, hell, welfare and social security appeared to be the cats meow when first introduced here, only to wreak havoc on the financial stability of our society and ultimately the moral fiber. heck, russia and the eastern block lasted over a century with their brilliant marxist ideals, leaving in their wake the most massive pools of blood and broken spirits ever seen in the history of mankind. pol pot, n. vietnam.....beautiful. how about more recently, say the 80's when everyone figured japan was so brilliant and far superior to us because they amended the socialist ideals a bit and had a perfect blend of govt and business, now were looking at almost ten years of recession, massive taxation, and the collapse of currencies....or france, how about france compared to kansas. france has finally figured out just the right mix now apparently, ooops, but now they are going into economic collapse. damn if only they could figure out if everyone should be entitled to 8 weeks vacation instead of 7, than im sure that whole system would just come together. but paris, hell, its a beautiful police state equipped with video cameras and who knows what else, but they have an upper hand on dc.....they have all the peoples money and they have all the power so they can afford to beautify their paris palace, while their middle class can only hope for more from the dole. its over, the verdict is in. how many people you know would try to build a raft from a couple twigs and sail across shark infested waters to get to the netherlands? yeah, we can keep trying this experiment because we just havent amended it correctly yet. you know why theres no comparison between detroit and the netherlands......because when you break the spirit of the individual and punish achievement and engage in massive taxation and redistribution of wealth, its just a matter of time. history just keeps telling us this over and over but its irrelevent. there, did the best i could just off the top of my head, hope this adds to the conversation in some way. honor and a privilege. poet.
