New HP Pavilion PCs Revolutionize How Users Connect With Family and Friends
HP's Easy-to-Use Message Board Makes Computing More Personal
New Designs "Future-Proof" HP Pavilion PCs by Enhancing Expandability
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 30, 1998-- Hewlett-Packard Company, the No. 2 home-PC manufacturer at retail, today unveiled a new line of HP Pavilion home PCs, complete with new features to help users tap into and share their creative potential.
The new line features six models in the HP Pavilion PC 6300 and 8300 series -- all with Windows 98 pre-installed -- and powered by a range of processors to meet consumer needs across the PC-user spectrum. Street prices are expected to range from $999 to $2,049 (U.S.)(1).
Among these new features is the HP Message Board, which makes it possible for users to create and share full, rich multimedia content, including messages, photos, greeting cards and more. Users either can send content via e-mail or post to a personal, password-protected Message Board Web site, which family and friends can visit and reply to with their own messages.
''HP is known for making quality products, and it has become a leading player in the retail PC business,'' said Dave Tremblay, senior industry analyst at ZD Market Intelligence, a La Jolla, Calif.-based research firm. ''In the results of a study we released recently, HP had the highest repurchase loyalty of the retail PC brands, ahead of perennial leader Apple Macintosh.''
''Our market success and customer loyalty are results of our combination of relevant cutting-edge technology and unrivaled customer care,'' said Harry W. (Webb) McKinney, general manager of HP's Home Products Division. ''In addition to our new product designs offering users the best in PC expandability, the HP Message Board gives them a way to create a personal online community to connect with family and friends.''
DISCOVER. CREATE. EXPLORE.
In addition to HP Message Board, HP will offer users an exclusive 60-day free trial of Disney's Daily Blast -- the online service for kids. Every HP Pavilion PC also offers one-touch Internet access -- a feature pioneered by HP -- which provides the easiest and fastest way to experience the World Wide Web. A single press of the Internet button on HP's one-touch multimedia keyboard accesses 50 free hours of no-credit-card-required exploration and a personalized start page that can be customized to fit user needs.
The HP Pavilion 8300 series PC features an innovative, front-mounted digital-camera port, a serial port that makes it more convenient to use cameras and other devices that are frequently connected and disconnected. HP Pavilion PCs also come with imaging software and up to 8MB of video memory to enable users to edit photos, create personalized greeting cards and even produce home videos.
EASY TO USE. BUILT TO LAST.
HP Pavilion PCs are designed to be ultra expandable and upgradeable, permitting PCs to grow in tandem with user needs. Up to 10 easily accessible bays and slots make it simple to add peripherals and new technologies. Because each HP Pavilion PC design must pass HP's 1,000-point quality inspection, users can be assured of enduring quality and reliability.
SUPERIOR CUSTOMER CARE
HP offers the HP Customer Care Promise, a pledge that support calls will be answered in three minutes or less, or the caller will receive a free, 15-minute prepaid phone card. All HP Pavilion PCs are backed by a one-year limited warranty with in-home service and 90-day free telephone support for all pre-installed software. Telephone support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
