Anyone notice this....>>ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 30, 1998--Printrak International Inc. (Nasdaq:AFIS) Tuesday announced a contract valued at $6 million for the continued upgrading of automated fingerprint identification equipment at Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) headquarters in Ottawa.
A Printrak customer since the company's origin in the mid-1970s, the RCMP has been upgrading to Printrak's Series 2000 real time architecture. Total value to date of Series 2000 orders is approximately $18 million.
The new contract will bring the RCMP system storage capacity to 3.6 million 10-print records (36 million fingerprints), with an option to further increase capacity by an additional one million records, according to Dan Driscoll, president of the digital justice division of Printrak.
"The RCMP is taking full advantage of the Series 2000's modular architecture, which was designed to allow customers to upgrade technology or add capacity at their own pace," Driscoll said.
The latest RCMP upgrade eliminates problems associated with the year 2000 date change, Driscoll noted.
The current order consists of a search subsystem, transaction processor, data storage and retrieval subsystem and various workstations with bilingual (English and French) user interfaces. Also included is Printrak's recently introduced NIST Server, which supports NIST industry standards that allow interoperability between Printrak and non-Printrak AFIS equipment. Printrak continues to lead all competitors in its implementation of NIST interoperability standards.
In the United States, several Printrak customers have already tested the NIST interface to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in advance of the FBI offering fingerprint-matching capability with its IAFIS system.
Printrak also announced that it has received final acceptance from the RCMP for its new Criminal History System (CHS), a project valued in excess of $10 million. The project required conversion of 33.6 million microfilmed documents from criminal history files to a 2-terabyte RAID document storage subsystem, a new workflow design controlled by CHS transaction processor, 123 workstations for retrieving and/or updating electronic documents, and a Fast Ethernet backbone for connecting system components.
The existing Printrak AFIS system is now integrated with the CHS into a criminal justice information system that will continue to expand as other departments are brought online.
