You can request a PC without Windows, but what did you put on it in return? DOS, another Microsoft product? The only thing you can use on it is Linux or OS/2, and neither have the capability to compete in the consumer market with Windows because of the program universality, that is to say, the variety of programs.

Your other alternative is Apple, which I am a major fan of.

But regardless, I'm not talking about MS Windows. I'm talking about the unfair positioning of MS Windows to integrate MSIE (Internet Explorer) within their OS so that there is absolutely no chance of Netscape Navigator competing. Navigator wasn't even going to become bundled with it until the US Government stepped in and said, "absolutely not."

It is unfair. The problem is, people are confusing the Microsoft market with the OS market.

I use Windows to work, sometimes to play. BUT nobody forced me to.

Tell me what else you can use for PCs.

I would like a clear listing of every monopoly the DOJ broke up that benefitted the consumer.

I can tell you one right off the bat. IBM was stopped in its tracks by the US government, which, unfortunately, demoralized the company and brought it to its knees (because of the mismanagement). If IBM was allowed to delve right into the OS market, they would now own the entire thing, consequently, Microsoft would be a division of IBM.

Picture how big that company would be. Apple would also have been out of business because IBM would not've been keen to make the Power PC chips that it does now.

That's just my take, of course. Everyone has a different opinion.
