Russell, Scott is right right about Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) and its limitations on providing broadcast video. In the near future, ADSL will probably replace IDSN BRI and maybe ISDN PRI. This would mean that it may eventually be a threat to MMDS for internet access. As I understand it, ADSL has a 1,500-foot drop limit, therefor it would have to tie into an ATM or simular near-by fiber-optic network. Even as slow a CAWS is in implementation of MMDS, you can bet that the laying of fiber everywhere it is needed to fully implement ADSL is going to be a bit slower and a bit more costly. For more info on ADSL go to the ADSL forum at: sbexpos.com
The one question that I would have about CAWS in the area of internet access, is how well can they provide the switching services necessary to handle a great number of internet users. I know that internet access will be icing-on-the-cake for CAWS as compared to brocast video, and maybe switching is not even an issue with MMDS. Can anybody address this concern? I do have serious reservations about wired cable-modem services performance, since these "unswitched" users will have to compete with each other for a limited bandwidth on a given cable segment.
