MT. LAUREL, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 1998--
--- targeted at Major Carriers worldwide, solution provides a high capacity resilient transport for a wide range of access services
Positron Fiber Systems Corporation (PFS) today announced that it has signed an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with RELTEC Corporation RLT , whereby RELTEC will integrate the Positron OSIRIS(TM) SONET Broadband Access Multiplexers family into RELTEC's DISCS(R) Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier (NGDLC) system. This solution will enable RELTEC to provide highly resilient delivery of both narrow and broadband, residential and business services on the same platform. The products will be sold under the RELTEC DISCS MR name.
DISCS provides a wide range of access services such as voice, data, xDSL and video for business, residential and high capacity users, in addition to market leading "deep fiber" fiber to the curb (FTTC) solutions. "As the need for resiliency increases and fiber deployment accelerates in local access networks, SONET access capabilities are becoming a critical component of NGDLC solutions worldwide," said Andrew Knott, PFS' Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "RELTEC has the vision and market savvy to offer this economical solution to customers as an integrated part of their leading-edge platform."
"Incorporating PFS technology into our DISCS platform enables our customers to cost-effectively provide voice, data and video services via SONET transport," said Mike Pratt, RELTEC Access Systems Vice President - General Manager. "We are pleased to support advanced data aggregation over SONET from our xDSL and deep fiber PC data solutions."
"Given RELTEC's substantial sales penetration of major Telcos in North America, this agreement will provide PFS with a significant new channel for our family of Broadband Access multiplexers," said Mr. Knott. "Access to the RBOC market strengthens and complements our overall sales strategy."
RELTEC is the pioneer in NGDLC systems, delivering the industry's first NGDLC Access system in 1988 and has over six million DISCS lines in service today. The platform has economic configurations from 192 lines to 2016 lines and service provisioning capabilities from Advanced Copper Solutions(SM) to Deep Fiber Solutions(SM). DISCS is a trademark of RELTEC Corporation. Advanced Copper Solutions and Deep Fiber Solutions are service marks of RELTEC Corporation.
