Eagle Hardware & Garden Names Ralph Buchan Vice President of Marketing

RENTON, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 1998--Eagle Hardware & Garden, Inc. (Nasdaq NM:EAGL) today announced that Ralph Buchan has succeeded Robert Cleveland as Vice President of Marketing. Cleveland, 69, retired after eight years with Eagle.

"We are very fortunate to have someone like Ralph to succeed Bob as the leader of our marketing efforts," said Richard Takata, Eagle President and CEO. "Bob leaves behind a talented department that will be in good hands with Ralph at the helm. Ralph's industry experience has proven to be a key element in the success of our advertising and marketing strategies. His experience in multi-market chain store environments will be important as we continue our expansion across the western United States."

Mr. Buchan, 50, has been with Eagle since 1994. Prior to joining Eagle, Buchan spent 21 years with Lowe's Companies in various advertising positions, most recently as Vice President - Advertising.

Eagle Hardware & Garden operates 32 warehouse home improvement centers in Washington, Utah, Colorado, Hawaii, Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana and Oregon. The Company's home centers average 128,000 square feet of retail selling space and feature over 65,000 products under its "More of Everything"(R) merchandising philosophy.
