Chaz: QC offers a dual-band, dual-mode PCS phone: the QCP-2700 (1900mhz digital and 800mhz analog). The Sony phone, through the QPE joint-venture, is presumably based on similar technology. As for the merit of an 800mhz cellular phone, Sprint has roaming agreements with analog carriers to expand (and improve) its service in regions where its digital network is not yet built out (or otherwise complete).
