Winning in the DRAM war may turn out to be a profitless goal.

Consider the increasing costs of equipping state of the art fabs vs the ever declining revenues/megabyte and one can make the case for zero payback. There seems to be a degree of insanity in this pursuit, unless I cannot see something major. What am I missing ?

There are companies with governmentally orchestrated positioning and war chests driving this business into the dirt, I saw 32 Meg of memory for $28 dollars this weekend. I see a chart depicting the accelerating cost of outfitting a fab placing the price tag at $1.4B per facility and growing towards $2B.

Has the gold ring decayed into lead ?

With multiple contenders from all the major industrial nations vying for positions in this dance, I just don't see any economic sense returning to this marketplace until some countries default. In this view semi equip companies may have more downside to deal with as the game wears on and on and on...
