Drugs harm society. If 2% of the people abuse them, that means that 2 out of every 100 people will be unable to cope with societal pressures and therefore a need for a larger welfare state will occur.

That number will increase with the legalization of drugs for the simple fact that more people will use them. Are you saying legalize them, but then launch a campaign to say they're bad? Drugs are addictive. There is no way getting around that. More people will fry their brain, more people will die.

My father died from alcohol. He was a smart man, but he died because he was addicted. I'm not happy about the ideology behind drinking, either. I laugh at society for promoting it as a thing to do on a Saturday night. But I do not think it is in the government's power to do anything about it unless that person screws up. Are you saying that because alcohol and tobacco are legalized, we should legalize everything? Isn't that claiming then that unrestricted issuing of firearms is ok because although they're used for killing, they're also used for protection by the majority of the population? The government has drawn the line because of the evils.

Where does the liberty stop and the infringement of other people's rights begin? I say that legalizing drugs is an infringement of other people's rights because of the increase in welfare state.
