PSA Peugeot Citroen Delivers Universal Data Access to 10,000 Users Across the Enterprise With Business Objects
Business Wire - July 01, 1998 08:20
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 1998-- Europe's 3rd Largest Car Maker Implementing Leading Decision Support Tools; Universal Access to Corporate Data Strengthens Competitive Edge Business Objects (NASDAQ:BOBJY), the world's leading provider of integrated enterprise decision support tools, announced that PSA Peugeot Citroen is deploying 10,000 licenses of Business Objects' products throughout the company's offices and factory facilities worldwide. PSA Peugeot Citroen purchased these licenses in December 1997, making it the fourth customer to purchase more than 10,000 licenses of BusinessObjects(TM). This further solidifies the position of Business Objects as the leader in enterprise decision support.
One of Europe's largest car manufacturers and a leading French exporter, PSA Peugeot Citroen will implement the query, reporting, analysis, and data mining tools to non-technical business users company-wide. Employees across the sales, financial, purchasing, investment, training, personnel, production, and quality management divisions will be able to access, analyze, and share corporate data. These employees will be given access according to the security level designated by their user profile, an additional BusinessObjects feature that is especially critical for enterprise deployments.
One of the primary benefits PSA Peugeot Citroen derives from the Business Objects DSS tools is the ability to standardize its business practices for access and distribution of information throughout the company. With its initial 1,000 seat implementation across its European facilities in 1996, PSA Peugeot Citroen standardized its business rules so that it can consistently track inventory, manufacturing, and sales. Now the global implementation of an additional 10,000 licenses will ensure that each division across the company has easy access to valid and consistent information.
"We are very excited to be working with an industry leader like PSA Peugeot Citroen, and to see them make our vision of 'information democracy' a reality," said Bernard Liautaud, president and CEO of Business Objects. "They are true innovators in the way they are delivering corporate information across all levels of the company. The fact that they are allowing so many employees, across departments and around the globe, to access, analyze, and share information will have a tremendous impact on the way they do business. We are very happy that they decided to standardize on Business Objects."
IBM and Business Objects Demonstrate Tight Partnership
The partnership between Business Objects and IBM played an important role in the decision to use Business Objects solutions at PSA Peugeot Citroen. IBM and Business Objects can point to several examples of their partnership, where Business Objects' tight integration with IBM's Visual Warehouse and DB2 have been successful in the banking, finance, and insurance industries.
Technical Environment
PSA Peugeot Citroen maintains a complex, mainframe-based environment. It runs DB2/MVS Windows 95 and 97 for the client platform, and uses IBM hardware exclusively. Users access both IBM DB2 and Oracle databases. PSA Peugeot Citroen will deploy BusinessObjects for integrated query, reporting, and analysis, BusinessQuery(TM) for ad-hoc query within Excel, and BusinessMiner(TM) for data mining.
Users can publish reports to the group's intranet servers with BusinessObjects Document Agent Server. In addition, PSA Peugeot Citroen is reviewing WebIntelligence(TM), the enterprise query, reporting, and analysis solution for the world wide web from Business Objects, for remote users who do not currently have access to corporate databases.
