Steve - Your comment was quite right "Analog squabbles as it dies".
It says basically what I mentioned on the 30th in post #6419
"I realize of course that a VDSL standard could drag on till next Christmas. Although I'm happy to see ADSL will be deploying all over the world, by the time they finish work on a 56Kbps standard."
I believe that 56Kbp modems will help ADSL. Why? Well nothing is likely to stand in front of the ADSL train as it begins to pick-up steam. But by the time 56K modems hits the consumers in mass quantities, and people find out that the old copper wire can't handle analog data at those speeds in 50% or more of the POTS lines, the consumers will be unhappy. They will be screaming at modems companies complaining. They "may" lose faith after forking out the bucks, and getting something that does not perform up to what it touts. This will either make them skeptical of ADSL, or they will view ADSL as the Holy Grail. As the companies say it's digital it works, and not that old analog crap, and the consumer can't wait to get their hands on it. The 56K modem in my opinion will be viewed as Ford's Mustang II, once it's in the consumers hands and they find out it's true performance.
When a consumer pays $250. for a 56Kbps, and a year later USRX says you can get 6,8,or 10Mbps for the same price, I think the consumers will go will go hog wild.
Now if we can just get the ISP's to start installing the equipment, and give the TELCO's a run for their money, maybe we can get this train up to full speed.
My 2 cents, for what it's worth, JW@KSC |
