Soomeone else said it before; all the best technology is worthless if nobody knows about it. Who knows about VidPhone? Vist any website of any OCOM reseller??? and see if you can find 'anything' about VidPhone. Lets call it the best kept secret going. Yeah I worked there. The product works, and it works great. I don't think they have much vision on who could use it and how. Many practices there seemed to be those of 1st timers in whatever position. Lots of things make you shake your head in bewilderment. It sounds like the current management is out including Mr. Rogers, and a new team is to be brought in. This is good news. The product is good.. very very good. The ISDN codec makes it as ratchety slow as everybody elses packet switched solutions, but the ATM IS being built for shipping as I type, and it has 25x the bandwidth as the ISDN. Hence it should perform very much like the inside the enterprise VidModem Switch. Its analog and its piped like a broadcast on wire. Transmitters and receivers, and video is real video, not digitized, compressed, decompressed and converted back to analog. Its beautiful... well.. as beautiful as NTSC video can be. I think they are missing many many opportunities by having tunnel vision on video conferencing.. yes that is a hot field to plow, but they are ready to roll out video distribution to large facilities like hotels, educational and medical institutions, etc. Don't under estimte the market for video distribution. VidModem just happens to also offer two way feedback. The potential is awesome. Right now anyone who needs video pumped all over their buildings have crews drilling holes, and pulling cables... miles of cables.. It gets very attractive to carry in a box, set it next to the phone system and plug in RJ45 cords. Zero alterations to the physical plant. Very easy to trial run.. I hope they bring in a few people with if not vision, at least with their eyes open to possibilities. I wouldn't mind being called back either. hehehe.. Folks this stuff is too good to die.. if OCOM can't get it together, someone HAS to buy them to get this tech.. it really is a unique product.
