Who's on the other side of your walls? I have some kids on the other side of some of mine, which is the reason for the rather elaborate precautions.

Urbanization has changed the equation, in many ways. I lived in NYC for a while, and people there are so wired out and cranky that I honestly think most of them are better off unarmed. If there was a gun in every car in that city, the carnage over parking spaces alone would be unbelievable.

I always thought the .30-06 didn't exist before 1906. Could be wrong. In fact must be wrong, as the 1903 Springfield took that round. I don't think I'd want to put a modern round through that 1878 rifle, though, especially if I'd paid almost 3 grand for it. I was on a range once where a guy tried a modern 2 3/4 magnum round through a beautiful old damascus-barrel 12 ga. side-by. Peeled the barrel back like a banana and almost took out his eye. Again, education...

On popguns - first gun safety lesson I ever had from my father was putting a 22lr hollow point through a grapefruit. Never again thought of it as a popgun.

Curious to hear your take on my closing question.

Steve
