Toyota Seeks To Make Practical Car
Fuel Cell By 2003 -Kyodo

Dow Jones Newswires

TOKYO -- Toyota Motor Corp. (TOYOY) will strive to develop a
practical fuel cell for use in automobiles by 2003, Vice President
Akihiro Wada said Wednesday, according to Kyodo News.

But Wada said it's too early to say whether the automaker will
achieve the development goal set by Toyota President Hiroshi
Okuda.

Speaking at a news conference to announce the launch of the
fully remodeled Vista passenger car and the Vista Ardeo wagon
version, Wada said Toyota needs to continue studies on fuel
cells.

Fuel cells generate electricity, together with water, from
hydrogen and oxygen, and are environmentally friendly.

Daimler-Benz AG of Germany is planning to develop a fuel cell
for automobiles by 2004 in cooperation with companies
including Ford Motor Co.
