Based on what I was told by MBT last week, no, they do not count towards the various trading thresholds.

Some other stuff:
- a separate account is needed although no add'l fee is required for that account, just add'l paperwork; a phone call or email to MBT gets you the paperwork
- you need to split your resources so that you have funds in both accts to cover your trading needs and you need to allow for an 'overnight' to journal funds between the two accounts
- option trades are via telephone only for now; eventually we'll be able to place them online although they're not sure when yet
