U.S. States Told to Cover Viagra Under Medicaid, WSJ Reports

U.S. states have been notified by federal health officials that they must pay for Pfizer Inc.'s impotence drug Viagra under their Medicaid
programs, the on-line edition of the Wall Street Journal
reported, citing a letter from Nancy-Ann DeParle, the
administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration, to
Governors Lawton Chiles of Florida and Michael Leavitt of Utah.
The federal government may drop the requirement if a new system
set up by the HCFA to monitor Viagra shows the drug ''is subject
to clinical abuse or inappropriate use,'' .
