To All, 1. Microchip got caught cooking the books and has barely been punished at all. As the goofy strategist said on CNBS yesterday, "I don't care about fundamentals any more." People just want to buy tulips, er, stocks. <G>

2. Sad tale. I scoped out a quarterhorse race at Fair Meadows perfectly yesterday. I didn't like the favorite and loved the second choice. So, genius that I am, I bet my pick to win, then I bet him in the first slot of the exacta with every horse in the race except the favorite, and then I did the same for a quinella, just in case he finished second.

It wasn't even close. My horse won the 350 yard race by about 400 yards. <BG> And the horse that placed was 45 to 1. I was counting all my money and wondering whether I wanted a Bentley hardtop or ragtop when I saw the word "objection" flashing ont he board. No problem, I figured. Stewards Inquiries are often enforced, but jockey objections rarely change the race. Then they took my horse down to last place for cutting off some glue factory reject out of the gate. O.K., he was guilty as sin. But I still feel crappy about it.

Oh, well, life's a beach and then you dry.
