I watched VRTL this morning to see if VRTL had finally reversed its downward trend following yesterday's gains.

My plan was to buy into yesterday's gains if there was good follow through this morning. However, it didn't happen and it became clear within the first 15 minutes after the opening bell that the price had stalled at 4. Once that became obvious, it then was clear that the price was going to drop as the short-term momentum players who bought yesterday afternoon started to bail out. So I held off on my buy order, and I'm now glad I did.

I suspect that there are a lot of people like me who believe in VRTL's long term prospects but are waiting to see VRTL turn the corner before they buy. We aren't willing to simply park our money and wait a long time before the stock begins to fulfill its potential -- after all, we can be putting our money to work elsewhere in the interim. (I only have a very small stake in VRTL at this time.) When VRTL turns the corner for real, VRTL could easily take off as those of us on the sideline begin to finally jump in. However, the failure of good news like yesterday's news to move the stock for more than a few hours suggests to me that that day is still far off.

Unfortunately, VRTL is in a chicken and egg dilemma. What comes first? Turning the corner and moving up, or sidelined investors jumping in? I don't know, at this point, how VRTL will break out of the doldrums -- except on several quarters of good earnings -- given the repeated failure of good news to break the current pattern.

When that happens, I'll be there. In the meantime, any thoughts on whether my analysis is wrong? I truly do like VRTL's long term prospects, but I also like to make money both short term and long term.
