You wrote "I must say that I am surprised to not have seen China higher up. In 1996, they were indeed bigger buyers of US bonds than Japan." That is just not so. In Dec 96, the major holders of US bonds in billions of $ were, Jap/286.4, UK/190.6, Ger/72.5, Neth. Ant./63.9, Mainland China/46.6, closely followed by Spain/46.4. You will also recollect that you stated uncategorically that the Netherlands were also larger holders than Japan, when they did not make the top 17. In summary, you were totally inaccurate as to China, and you missed by at least 17 places on the Netherlands. You were correct on who was the largest present holder as of Apr, further being right the last 4 months. In comparison Aloha was accurate as to China, then and now. He won by a slam dunk on the Netherlands. He was correct 2 of the last 6 months as to the largest holder, and 60 of the last 64 months. Not occasion for dim sum au cadism, but raw pineapple at best, taken with humility at one's good fortune.
