Re the IBM bonds; those were 100 year bonds and as such I think it has to do more with interest rate timing than anything else. IBM has in the past been fairly adept at floating long term paper at the most prodigious points on the yield curve and may have figured what with their stock 8 points away from the 1987 high that now is the time to lock in rates, fill the treasury now buy fallen angels on the cheap later. What bothers me more is their latest major stock buyback announcement; I would feel much more comfortable were they buying/building products rather than buying their shares back. But I'm just an outsider looking in; obviously they know what they are doing.
