Ensemble's Relevant Helps Students Create Marin County Fair's
Blue Ribbon Web Site
03:14 p.m Jul 01, 1998 Eastern

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 1998--Relevant, Ensemble
Information Systems' dynamic content management software, is helping the student
volunteers of Onramp make their award-winning web site even more exciting.

The students are using Relevant to generate XML documents and publish up-to-the-minute
news on the Marin County Fair website. Fair visitors can have their picture taken on the
spot and send "virtual postcards" using Relevant.

The fair reflects the influence of the many high tech firms located in Marin County, just
north of San Francisco. In 1995 the student volunteers of Onramp created the first county
fair website in the U.S. The site has won awards every year and this year is no exception.
Onramp has been presented with the Western Fair Association's Blue Ribbon Award for
1998.

Jean Christofferson, founder and CTO of Ensemble Information Systems, has found
working with students to be a rewarding experience. "The kids did it all," she said,
referring to the website. "We provided Relevant and some guidance and they ran with it.
They did not feel intimidated by the idea of using XML. The students even found new
ways to extend Relevant's capabilities."

Sharon Taylor, one of the leaders of Onramp, is grateful for the donation of Ensemble's
Relevant software. "Relevant makes a big difference in how quickly we can post our
stories during the fair and makes it much easier to offer our virtual postcards. The students
always enjoy learning about new technology." About Onramp

Onramp was started in 1994 by Diane Ascher, the founder of Island Graphics, as a place
where students could learn more about computers and entrepreneurship. Sharon Taylor,
who co-founded Orion Network Systems and also loves kids and computers, soon added
her expertise to the project. Diane and Sharon consider themselves "co-mothers" to the
more than 100 students that have participated in Onramp. The students donate many hours
to community projects such as the fair every year. Visit the Marin County Fair site at
www.marinfair.org. About Ensemble
