I agree. IMHO the time to buy DELL is 4-5 weeks before the earnings report. At this point you will usually find it trading near the top of the range established after the previous report. Sometime around week 4 it will break out to a new high, all the momentum players will see it and jump on the stock and ride it all the way to the date of earnings and then dump it.
Everybody and their brother knows DELL will beat whatever the earnings target is. DELL is so efficient I'll bet they monitor real-time exactly how they are doing and know how much more they will need to exceed est. They don't need to wait on reports from the channel which can cause nasty surprises.
If other venders are seeing an increase in sales due to WIN98, you can bet that DELL is too and they have a month to suck in that extra revenue before reporting earnings. Is this reflected in the est? I doubt it because the est. come from co. guidance which is conservative and would not have factored in revenue resulting from a product nobody was even sure would be released just a few weeks ago.
The bottom line is this:IMHO DELL is doing what it does every Q at this point which is going sideways. If history repeats itself, the next move is UP BIGTIME.
