Verity Announces Two Verity Text DataBlade Modules For
INFORMIX-Universal Server

Verity Demonstrates Advanced Search Capabilities of Verity Text
DataBlade Modules at Informix Pavilion Booth #854

NEW YORK, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Verity Inc , a leading provider of search and
retrieval applications for the enterprise and Internet, today announced that the
Verity Text DataBlade(R) module for INFORMIX(R)- Universal Server and the Verity Text
Extender DataBlade module are scheduled for commercial availability during Verity's
current fiscal quarter. Verity also announced that it would participate in the
INFORMIX-Universal Server Launch and demonstrate its advanced search capabilities at
the DataBlade Pavilion at DBEXPO, Jacob Javits, New York this week.

According to Informix's General Manager DataBlade Business Development Unit, David
Cope, "Text and document management continues to be a major problem for most
companies. Verity's Text DataBlade modules for INFORMIX- Universal Server will help
customers bring text and documents under control like any other data."

"We are working with Informix to incorporate the Verity search engine into Text
DataBlade modules for the INFORMIX-Universal Server," said Philippe Courtot, Verity's
chairman and CEO. "This combination of the Verity search engine and the
INFORMIX-Universal Server is quite powerful. Unlike traditional relational systems,
the INFORMIX-Universal Server will take advantage of third-party technologies, and
manage multiple data types in one central repository. In addition, INFORMIX-Universal
Server customers will now have the ability to leverage Verity's architecture, allowing
them to search information in other applications that already include the Verity
search engine through access gateways currently under development by Verity. These
applications include Lotus Notes, Documentum, Netscape and many others."

Two Verity Text DataBlade Modules for INFORMIX-Universal Server

The Verity Text DataBlade module encapsulates Verity's search engine, the industry's
premier text-search engine for document management, Internet/Intranet publishing and
groupware solutions, providing full text searching within the database engine. The
Verity Text DataBlade module adds intelligence to the INFORMIX-Universal Server,
giving users a flexible, extensible way to search, store, and manage text.
INFORMIX-Universal Server serves as a single point of integration for managing text
alongside image, audio, video and simple data, providing uncommon flexibility in
database text searching. Text search functionality now means you can search for
adjacent words, whole phrases, or words that are simply near each other, as well as
index and retrieve documents in HTML, SGML, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ASCII.

The Verity Text Extender DataBlade module is designed to provide advanced search and
retrieval functionalities not available in the base product, such as clustering,
summarization and support for over 100 different file formats. This advanced module
will be sold and distributed by Informix.

Verity Search Engine Technology

Verity's family of products includes indexing server software; client software for
generating search queries and displaying the retrieved documents; developers' toolkits
for integrating with other software; spiders for reading and indexing text that
remains distributed on remote servers; and agents that automatically alert users when
relevant new content appears on designated servers. Verity's search indexing and
retrieval software enables users to submit queries across databases, groupware, PDF
document collections, word processing files, and SGML and HTML Internet Servers.

DataBlade Technology

A DataBlade module is a software component that extends the relational database to
manage new kinds of data. DataBlade modules add domain-specific expertise and key
functionality required for native support of specific data types. DataBlade modules
plug-in directly to the database, making the newly defined types and functions
first-class citizens in the database. Informix customers may use a single DataBlade
module or a number of DataBlade modules simultaneously to create a unique, integrated
information management solution customized for their business needs. Customers can
choose from a growing portfolio of packaged DataBlade modules from Informix or third
parties, or define and create their own.
