Rockwell's announcement on June 29 that they are spinning off their semiconductor operations into a separate company surprised us as well. This new company will be a $1.3 billion semiconductor producer and is a current leader in the personal communications chipset market. We attended the Rockwell annual shareholders meeting a few months ago and neither Don Beal nor Don Davis had much to say about the disappointing earnings from the Semiconductor Systems group. The new company will be traded on the NASDAQ under a new symbol independent from Rockwell International. It is going to be interesting to see what shareholder value is given to this new company. If it is based upon book value of assets, it might be overvalued because of the relative large capital investment that was made in the plant near Colorado Springs.

We have former Rockwell employees in our investment club so we follow the happenings with interest. I recently evaluated the "future" products at the Rockwell Science Center. If anyone is interested in our updates, they can be viewed at cutrade.com under Members Only.
