I have a need to understand something about a particular naysayer characteristic. I have been a part of several threads where the DD is being presented well. The inquisitive and sometimes feisty investors are going at it, albeit focused on topic.
Then along comes mister naysayer who begins to challenge the more famous spokespeople of the thread. They don't own the stock but may compulsively post for a couple of weeks attacking the thread with unverifiable negative comments. If they can't provoke a comment from one of the investors that way they will make offensive personal remarks. These people never say why they are investing so much time into the thread this way. If you follow there posts on other threads you can see that there are stocks that they really do invest in. The thread posts get more and more off topic and the integrity of the thread wains.
Ok look, I don't do my own DD. Lazy me. But I support those that do. I try to post frequently. And, I respond to these naysayers. Some times I even try to provoke them. You know what? They never respond to me. That is one of the things that makes me believe they are focused and have an agenda. Not just giving their 2 cents.
I have seen this more than once on this thread, and others. Why do they come, more importantly why do they hang around. I don't buy the, "just trying to help," comments, because it usually becomes clear that they will do anything to mess up everyone's day. I'm pretty sure they have something to gain but I can't put my finger on it.
I'm not asking about people who sincerely doubt something and challenge the posters, who are in the know, to convince them. I've done that myself. But when I decide not to go with a stock, I stop putting any energy into it.
If it were rare, I would consider the person just wierd and probably tolerate it. I'd might even have some admiration for their uniqueness. But, I'm seeing this as a common phenomenon these days. It's like someone wrote a "how to" book and distributed it to the business schools.
My question. What is this? Is it a way to build email lists, drag people over to a stock you want supported, reduce the price prior to buying in, get back at somebody. Or, something else? |
