So, wiseguy, how many of CPQ's unit sales were for their "inexpensive" Proliant's

Getting a little testy are we?
The answer is that these were only the machines that compete (if that's the word for a 25 to 1 slaughter) against the 450. CPQ sold more than a million servers in 1997.

, it's software and support that are the key & SUNW wins hands down. They've been doing it longer and have a better track record
than ANY PC vendor

Have you looked at the size and enterprise penetration of DEC's (now CPQ's) service organization versus Sun's? DEC was doing billions in enterprise service annually before Sun was even a company. Once again, I think you are about to be badly burned by the real data...

BTW, my posts have contained references to news articles that constitute hard evidence of my claims

Cheryl, that stuff would be a lot more credible if it was not off of the Sun web site. The 450 has pretty much been a failure in the marketplace, although it's not a bad box. I would never suggest that it is in the league of the Proliants it was targeted against, and the sales figures bear that out. Stick to third party evidence and stay away from the corporate SPAM and you'll win a lot more points.

If you would look a little farther than your own posts, you would find that I am not an apologist for MSFT, CPQ or any PC vendor. I am an investor who is interested in as much solid data as I can find about the companies I follow. I have followed Sun for many years and I have worked with them on a professional basis as recently as fall of last year. Since my time is not cheap, Sun management is apparently not as ready as you are to discount my opinions. If you have the energy to do some solid research instead of corporate PR you might actually learn something (if you care about that).
