Thinking strictly about this world Raymond, aren't you? What if God was talking about eternal death. Not in this life, but the next. Is that possible? Come on Raymond, think! Most people always think of the here and now. But God frequently speaks of the eternal life, like this one!
Oh Steve, and you didn't consider the verse I quoted from, did you??
God says, "And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken?" This is from the same chapter in Deuteronomy.
But The Prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
So this is a criteria for determining a False Prophet from a True One.
If it is an "eternal death," as you claim, then God has told his people something of no value. For if they ask, "How shall we know a true Prophet from a False One," and he replied, "Because a False one will receive an eternal death," this completely gives them no help. After all, they won't know if that Prophet received eternal death until it's too late!!
So your point is moot. It cannot have the interpretation you are giving it. The people needed some way to discern a True from a False Prophet. God tells them a Prophet that speaks in the name of God and was not commanded to do so shall be killed.
So, how do you explain it now? Ray |
