Glen< Does anyone know how we can confirm it was Morgan Stanley?>
Yes Glen I can confirm that MSDW is a major player in the Amzn float control. I assume you do not recall my earlier posts when I first declared the short squeeze was in the making.
Let me once again go thru this fascinating saga.
Just before Amzn announced its last revenue figures (remember the stock shot up 12points) it was reported in the Seattle Times that Jeff Vinik was accumulating Amzn stock (he is now the largest profit maker). Then came MSDW, AlexB, MerrilL, MontSec, RS, DLJ and a couple of no names.
So now the float is controlled. That's why there have been no real shares to short since this legal manipulation started. Why would these institutions give up control of the float, knowing that America's appetite for selected (hyped) Internet Co's is insatiable?
What I find scary is, in theory they won't have to let go until Amzn dumps its next 5mil shares on the public. They could go after that too, but by then these 'profit at all costs' will be long gone, followed by the momentum guys and, since there are very little value investors in here, that leaves the last yuppies in, holding the bag.
