Actually, I'm stuck working the holiday (but not
so dedicated that I wont post a message or two today)

CompUSA in my town was giving a very good spot to Mech
Commander, end of row at the front of the middle aisle
down the store. When I happened to grab my copy the
four shelves were down a little light, I wasn't so rude
to ask the kid working the games area to fill them back
up--I liked the look that they were going fast, hehe.

Now this paragraph is the truth, you probably wont beleive
it, but here it is: With 1500 mprs at 4.5 (was that a double
bottom I hope) you would think that I was completely aware
about MechCommander. When I went in the other day, I did
not go to buy a game, I was there for a cable. When I saw
the bright yellow box, on the aisle, with the copies going
fast, I did not grab it because I have been anticipating
the game. I did because I was curious and had temporarily
forgotton all about Microprose. It certainly helped that
I getting a little sick of StarCraft, well, more than a
little sick of it. Anyway, I think it is pretty remarkable
that the box was in hand before all the facts finally
crystalized in my brain. I hope a lot of other people just
walking by the display are doing the same thing--("Mech, cool,
rebate, O.K!).

The box comes with collector cards--a really detailed
hi-res rendered picture would have dazzled me, but they
are fine. It is funny, one of the cards has a wolf, and
the first thing I thought of was Magic--even though I
don't play Magic. The price was something like $28 after
rebate, fair enough--I always cringe at rebates but that
seems to be the price point now.

The checkout person explained carefully that they will only
take back defective disks--and that the manufacturers now
are not taking copies back, the kids burning cd roms are
becoming a menance--but I think the manual and cards and
price should be enough to keep all but a few from doing that.

I saw a blurb on cdmag.com about AoJ possibly being cancelled,
but it is still on their website, as of 7/4, listed as upcoming.
I wonder if Pepsi might just buy them out! I guess I had thought
that maybe atvi to get all the mech together, but I think it
would be a riot if Pepsi did it, pretty much chump change for
them.

AoJ still listed:

Off topic, one of the reasons I went to CompUSA was to see if
they have yet set up a display for the new MS Flight Sim add ons
coming out from Alpha (SoftQuad). They were not there as of
last Thursday, hope they got some copies in time for Sunday
shoppers. I have lots of SWEBF (SKI.to) because I am completely
freaking insane.
