This Inspector General report on IDENT is a great find. I nominate you for a Wendell.
I found some stuff, and posted it a few months ago, that dealt with testimony before Congress where a West Virginia representative wanted to know why IDENT wasn't a ten-print system. Of course, the AFIS government work is done in West Virginia, so this was a somewhat predictable attitude. Nevertheless, the INS response was along the lines of "we're looking into that."
Now I see there are 1,044 workstations set under IDENT. Given that the INS deal number 1 (naturalization checks) represents, in total, about 500 TP-600s, you can see the possibilities here.
As the link indicates, this is not happening yet, but it sounds pretty good to me. I don't think anyone but IDX is working with the INS on AFIS machines. |
