NTN to honor 10 millionth QB1 player
CARLSBAD, Calif.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Dec. 3, 1996--
In December, one lucky football fan will become
an instant winner by logging on to NFL-licensed QB1,
the most widely distributed interactive game in the world
Within weeks, one lucky football fan will become an instant celebrity simply by logging on to QB1, the live interactive football game produced by NTN Communications Inc .
Based on player-participation records, NTN predicts that its popular NFL-licensed game will reach 10 million players by mid-December. NTN will honor the 10 millionth QB1 player with football-game tickets, NFL merchandise and QB1 memorabilia.
His or her name will also be announced on-screen during the football game via NTN's various delivery platforms, including the NTN Entertainment Network -- which broadcasts to thousands of group viewing locations such as sports bars, restaurants and military bases -- along with America Online and CompuServe.
NTN introduced QB1 during the 1984 Super Bowl. Today, on Monday nights alone, nearly 100,000 players participate live in conjunction with televised broadcasts. This season marks the first year that QB1 game players at hospitality sites will compete simultaneously for prizes against on-line subscribers and computer users accessing the Internet.
The interactive game challenges players to predict which play the offense will run just prior to the snap of the ball. Participants need not be football fanatics to win; however, more-precise answers will earn more points.
``Now, with QB1 in its 14th season, it's evident that NTN and the NFL make a great team,'' said Dan Downs, president of NTN Communications. ``QB1 has enjoyed an enthusiastic following by football fans since day one ... and they're still with us, playing at more locations and on more platforms than ever before.
``Now that virtually anyone with access to a PC can join in a QB1 game, we have the opportunity to expose even more people to fast action football entertainment.''
Football fans at hospitality locations can enjoy a variety of related QB1 games sponsored by Miller Lite, including, among others, the QB1 Monday Night Power Ranking, where each location is ranked against others throughout North America; QB1/Lite League Playoffs, a single-elimination tournament beginning Dec. 16 and concluding with the Super Bowl on Jan. 26; QB1 Monday Night Player of the Year, which recognizes the best individual QB1 Monday Night Football players; and QB1 Sunday Night Shoot Out, highlighting the top-scoring Sunday-night game player.
For America Online subscribers, the NTN Playbook, sponsored by the Miller Brewing Co., gives fans a single location for six different interactive football programs, including QB1, Survivor, Fantasy Football, Oddsmaker, Football Trivia and Football Power Polls. The NTN Sports Studio on CompuServe offers QB1, Football Trivia and General Sports Trivia.
Carlsbad-based NTN Communications, the industry's leading producer and programmer of two-way (interactive) television, on-line and Internet entertainment, broadcasts to a variety of delivery platforms seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
NTN's content is among the most popular destinations on computer on-line and interactive cable services, including America Online, CompuServe and GTE's MainStreet. The NTN Entertainment Network also distributes programming to more than 15 million participants per month at hospitality sites throughout North America.
