Dipy:
<<The only thing that I can think of is India's "PCO/STD/ISD revolution" which has done wonders in the area of communications. >>

<<Instead, it is being used as an argument that Government should continue to fund the rest of the extravagant bureaucratic alphabet-soup outfits.>>

Indians are talking heads. Each and every one has his own opinion. Their is no unified voice or chorus, no discipline that the Chinese have (may be they have robotic vision) and no idea among politicians to put the country ahead of their own ambitions. No wonder we are always looking at the rear-view mirror. I bet that the present day generation is more practical and dedicated, having been exposed to American & international ideas. Things are going to change. Don't bet against India. The churlish Churchillian characterization of Gandhi as a half-naked fakir epitomizes the perceived notion about Indians in the eyes of the world. There is no use talking about the fine Canjeevaram and Benarus Silk Saris and exquisite Indian cuisine, unless every Indian is well clothed and fed. This kind of paradox and juxtaposition exist in every country. Enough said for today.
