Just back from an extended-weekend whitewater kayak trip up to the north country - I write a little on the side for Action Asia, which gives me a nice excuse to get out in the back country.

Interesting story on the Orang Asli. I lived for a number of years in the interior of the Luzon Cordillera, which remains pretty much under the control of indigenous groups. They've been quite successful in keeping their land and resources in their own hands, much more so than most other tribal groups here. It's a fascinating way of life, and despite the primitive appearance, I can't help feeling that they know a few important things that the rest of us have forgotten.
