Infighting breaks out in Indonesia's ruling party Allies of former Indonesian president Suharto within the ruling Golkar party have backed calls for the ouster of party chairman Harmoko, news reports said Saturday. It was the first public sign of infighting in Golkar, of which Suharto is still the chief patron despite his resignation from the presidency May 21. The Jakarta Post newspaper said Golkar's board of patrons, which is headed by Suharto, criticized Harmoko at a meeting Friday for being slow to respond to public clamors for political reform and to impart a feeling of security to the people after riots in May.
