I agree that companies should be eager to let the world know they are addressing their Y2K vulnerability.

So far, the SEC mandate is a joke. Browse through the Y2K statements on SEC filings - they're all adopting boilerplate which says nothing.
They are just delaying the panic, imo.

Also, utilities which are not publicly traded don't have to say anything.

All in all, recent action is frustrating, but this too shall pass.
