Old programmers don't just fade away, they try to profit from the mess of their own making. FWIW, Ted, I feel euro conversion will be a more difficult fix then Y2k but smaller number of companies and systems are affected whereas Y2k is more universal.

My investment in PTUS was not for their tools but based on the expectations that they will grow their SI, Consulting business. I am not sure how any of that is going.

I have a lot of faith in management to make a mess of things by waiting too long or to ignore recommendations that come out of MIS shops. I remember making recommendations in 1984 as part of a data administration standards that we should adopt metric date standard for all computer and related systems (forms, reports etc.) for any new computer systems being developed. Metric date is (YYYYMMDD). Although standards were approved I am not sure they were fully implemented because after I left the MIS shop went through one of it's periodic reorganization.
