Quantech wins FDA approval for myoglobin test

Reuters, Monday, July 06, 1998 at 13:09

ST. PAUL, Minn., July 6 (Reuters) - Quantech Ltd.(BB:QQQQ)
said Monday it received U.S. Food and Drug Administration
approval to market its myoglobin test for heart attacks.
The company's diagnostic system is designed primarily for
hospital emergency rooms to provide rapid quantitative tests.
Quantech's first tests will be used to detect and quantify
cardiac markers, which help doctors in assessing whether a
patent has suffered a heart attack.
Quantech said it would not launch this product or other
tests into the emergency room testing market until it files for
and obtains FDA clearance for the system that reads the results
of the tests.
"We chose a heart attack test for our first FDA submission
because of the large and recognized market for STAT cardiac
testing," Robert Case, chief executive, said in a statement.
Shares of Quantech were up 1/8 at 2-3/4 early Monday
afternoon.
