****Government Announces Korea Telecom Privatization 07/03/98 SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, 1998 JUL 3 (NB) -- By Martyn Williams, Newsbytes. The South Korean Government has taken the wraps off plans to privatize eleven state-owned companies, including Korea Telecom.
The company, Korea's dominant telecommunications carrier, will be among a group of six companies to be privatized gradually, while the remaining five companies face immediate privatization.

The government currently holds a 71.2 percent stake in the company and recently announced plans to increase the maximum foreign share ownership, which is now 20 percent, to 33 percent in 1999.
