Milton Keynes, England - NEC Electronics (UK) Ltd. has developed a single-chip baseband for set-top boxes and integrated televisions.
The chip, based on a 64-bit VR4110 MIPS architecture, was specified at NEC's Multimedia Application Center here and is suitable for digital satellite, cable or terrestrial receivers. It requires an appropriate demodulation front end, memory and interface components to complete the system.
The chip includes an MPEG-2 transport-stream demultiplexer, an MPEG decoder and graphics engine. On-chip peripheral support functions include smart-card interface, IEEE 1394 Firewire serial interface, parallel port, I2C interfaces and UARTs. |
