Actually, XCom was called UFO in Europe, and was made by some European independent. MPRS published it in the states and changed its name. Not sure about the sequels though.
Apparently, Simtex (makers OF x-com) located in Austin
Has Simtex made a game since MOO2? IMO, Simtex makes games with great premises, but have WAY too many bugs in them. This could have been caused by MPRS pushing them to release, or their code libraries.
Two examples: MOM, which scrambled your command.com, so if you executed any DOS command after running it, it might scramble your FAT. This prompted me to create a 20 MB partition called SIMTEX_SUX just to run MOM! This bug was fixed in patch 1.2x.
MOO2, which might have been a good game, except the reason why my roommate and I purchased it was to play over a LAN, and the multiplayer code (as released) was exceedingly slow and buggy.
To be fair, I still play 1830, made by Simtex and published by Avalon Hill, about 100-200 times a year. I think MOM is one of the best simgle-player games ever made. (I can't find my disks though! ARG!) MOO (1, not 2) is another excellent game.
