In that case, current management should have said that. This way it can be construed as collusion in maintaining a myth if in fact the deal was a myth. If something happened to make the deal no longer attractive this should have been disclosed.

This makes me very suspicious of believing anything they say now. I have invested in a number of companies which handle things like this and my results in those cases have been poor.
