You know, we can have it both ways. First, it is almost guaranteed that NT5 will be delayed deep into 1999. Second, despite the delay, NT5 will be a gigantic hit. Maybe not the Novell and Unix killer that some had expected, but a huge money machine anyway. Same thing with Merced by the way. A lot of people were not surprised that it was delayed, though they were surprised that so many people were surprised (try saying that ten times fast).

I'm an IT consultant. I've found a lot of people in the industry were expecting delays in both Merced and NT5, and didn't particularly care since they were too busy worrying about fixing things ahead of Y2000 to worry about major platform-altering upgrades. So basically, yeah there are delays, but so what, no big deal.
