It looks like Bob already responded for me. I too was going to suggest Canada Stockwatch. Take the time to try all of its features. If you play the cdn juniors or are a short term trader this site is invaluable. Make sure you or anyone new to Can Stockwatch tries the following:
trade workstation - great to see volume, average price, what houses are buying/selling, size of trades, etc over a specific time period.
portfolio - I can track up to 100 companies and get an overview updated every 3 min (price, chg, vol, 52H/L, etc). I also receive email price alerts set by myself, news releases, and items in the newspapers for all port. co. Yesterday I received the email re: BXM being halted withing 2 min. of the actual halt. Stories in the G&M or FP on featured co. are received during the night before most people receive their paper!
Market view under portfolio - use this during the day for current news on companies not followed, or to see who is having large vol, $vol, or price movements for that day.
Realtime quotes - I receive realtime ASE quotes for free with my 20/m trader subscription. Other exchanges real time quotes are available but are costly (from 4.00 - 17.00/m extra). BTW - US residents can receive REALTIME QUOTES FOR ALL CDN EXCHANGES FOR ONLY 6/MO (great deal, too bad I don't live in USA)
Charts - Always view/print the chart before investing in any comp.
Market stats workstation - great filtering device. I use this to track which VSE/ASE stocks are "in play" by filtering all stocks greater than $400,000 of trading volume daily. This usually provides 20-40 stocks. This feature is a great way to try and locate stocks with a min $Vol which are rebounding from recent lows.
VSE insider trading and short position reports - also available for free. I'm usually too busy to even review these unless a specific concern for a comp.
When I start researching a new comp I like to review all news releases for the past year and summarize the stats/results along with shares issued, trading range, etc in a word document. That way I can separate the hype from facts and not get burnt by entering a play being heavily promoted at the high price range. I've learned this the hard way more than once!
For all of this and more I pay $20/mo. Canada Stockwatch has other cheaper subscriptions but in order to track more than 40 comp you need the "trader" subsc. at $20. Oh yeah you also get $20 daily credit for other items not listed above (like reading news releases for non portfolio comp at 0.40 each) i.e. you could read an additional 50 NR /day for non portfolio companies for free.
The site address again is: canada-stockwatch.com
I have this site as my "home" site in netscape. If this sounds like an adv for Canada Stockwatch I'm sorry. I just think if all investors in cdn speculative stocks used this service they would be able to make better investing decisions and not get burned by internet promoters/newsletter writers based on hype. I still believe that newsletters are a great investment resource - but you WILL LOSE MONEY IF ALL YOU DO IS BLINDLY FOLLOW A "SO CALLED" EXPERT WHO IS PAID TO PROMOTE A PARTICULAR STOCK.
I look forward to anyones comments. el |
