I still don't believe the market has taken into consideration Compaq's ownership of Altavista. With Yahoo valued at $7 billion, and Altavista one of the truly great search engines, I'm suprised that we have not seen more interest in Compaq's stock.

The real question I have is why Compaq is not letting it go in an IPO in this frothy Internet market. Perhaps they are going to try to leverage it for Internet sales. If so, I think they would be better off selling it and using some of the cash for advertising on all the major port sites.

I'd rather Compaq got rid of Altavista and focused all their efforts on improving BTO and net sales.
